The 2022 Masters winner made big strides last season with a Scotty Cameron-style club. But with a new season approaching, Schaeffler gave up his loyal blade for a new racket. According to a report by GolfWRXwas seen training with his new club in South Carolina during the recession.

While an already high-quality game upgrade is expected, a change in clubs rarely pays immediate dividends. Nobody knows that better than Rory McIlroywho had a bad 2013 season after signing a major equipment change with Nike.

Rory McIlroy will be one of many stars in the business, who will be looking to reclaim the world number one spot in the early part of the season. The 4-time Grand Slam winner will replace Scheffler at the top of the standings provided certain conditions are met.

The easiest way for McIlroy to climb to the top is to win the CJ Cup outright in hopes that Schaeffler will not finish second. All hopes are not lost if he doesn’t win – the former world number one can still take first place if he finishes second on his own and Schaeffler ends up outside the top 34.

By all means, McIlroy will not be the end of the road if he fails to finish second in the championship. The Northern Irish will continue to have chances to kick out the American as the season progresses. On the other hand, it also provides an opportunity for Scheffler to increase the gap between the highest-rated golfers on the PGA Tour.
