I am a big fan of the center pivot rackets because often the feel is very stiff with the shaft going to the head just behind the ball. This makes them among the most forgiving of bats and means it’s easy to encourage your hands to be in the correct position before the ball.
This all goes for the Cleveland HB Soft Milled 10.5C racket and the hammer head shape is more compact than most adds to the feel that this is an accurate racket.
It features a set of three head alignment stripes designed with teacher Dave Beals theory in mind that this is the best approach to aiding in alignment. You could argue it’s 5 lines if you count the outside of the black section the white lines are sitting on. Either way, the visual alignment tool on the Cleveland HB Soft Milled 10.5C will have you point in the correct direction.
The leading edge is clear for alignment as well and is located 3 degrees above the loft face that features Cleveland’s Speed Enhanced Face Technology. This is a fancy name for groove lines of different depth and spacing that have been milled into the face to ensure that no matter where the ball is hit, the speed will be more consistent. This turn means that the ball is more likely to reach the hole in the holes, so it may open a little more or be closer to the next ball.
The texture of the face is very good due to the grinding process. Unlike some premium milled beaters, Cleveland HB Soft Milled 10.5 is cast first to reduce waste material and get the correct weighting. Then key areas on the back of the head and face are milled to create the final article at a lower cost, which is passed on to you with a value for money of £199.
Depending on the chassis you choose, there is also a choice of Golf Pride Pro Only pistol grips with a square red star shaped pistol grip or oval Green Star options which are chosen to fit the stroke style of this putter and will fit your hands perfectly.
If you’re picky, it would be nice to see the HB Soft Milled 10.5 with a bigger head, but then I suppose it would be like my Cleveland HB Soft Milled 14 review. However, don’t be put off by the compact size because the Cleveland HB Soft Milled 10.5C is a racket that hits center for feel and performance every time.
