Brent Yates was living a high life as a serial entrepreneur and owner of a multimillion-dollar business before life had other plans, sending him into a mental and physical maelstrom that threatens his very existence.

Now 61, Brent Yates is back, feeling stronger than ever thanks to lessons learned from trial and error as he recovers. He has hired a life coach, and while that may not be possible for everyone, he feels strongly that people should make a conscious effort to look at the media they consume, the friends they spend time with, and ask themselves if they are in a satisfactory environment.

“My favorite method of training is called ‘function fit,'” says Yates. “I always focus primarily on the core. It is the lifeblood of everything we do. Our core is the core of our bodies. Basically, I want my heart rate to go up from the first five minutes in the gym. Next is the more “functional” steps, but we’re still moving around and using cable machines, rowing machines, and whatever you can do for your heart that you probably can’t reach at home. I usually use a lot of cable, body weight, and those kinds of functional movements. All in all, I’ve found my physical training regimen to be an integral part of my journey to the top, but it’s not complete without the mental and spiritual components as well. You have to be “fit” in your mind, body, and spirit to truly understand “the attraction of the Most High”.
