‘In the World Cup, you need…’ Kalis assesses India’s chances of winning the T20 WC | cricket

India, ranked No. 1 in the world in the ICC men’s T20I rankings, has been far from its best of late. After being knocked out in the Super 4 round of the 2022 AFC Asian Cup, Men in Blue lost to Australia in their first T20I on home soil and their recent results have been disappointing for the team heading to the next T20 World Cup in October of this year. Team India’s performance was disappointing, with some experts ringing alarm bells for Rohit Sharma & Co.

Former South African multi-level player Jack Callis has joined the bandwagon and is focused on India’s chances of winning the T20 World Cup. Kallis, one of the greatest all-round players in history, believes that despite the recent fluctuation in form, India is one of the favorites for the tournament.

Callis told the Times of India. “They are the good kind. In the World Cup, you need luck to go your way and you need to play important moments. For sure, they have a chance to win it.”

Speaking about the spinners’ role in the T20 World Cup, Callis said that each team will have periods and games where spinners or tailors dominate. India advanced with three players to the World Cup namely Yozvendra Chahal, R Ashwin and Aksar Patel, while Ravi Bishnoi was added as a substitute. “I think every team will have periods and matches where spinners or tailors will dominate,” Callis said.

Kallis, considered one of the best players of all time, currently plays the Legends League Cricket Championship in India, representing India Capitals. With over 500 caps in his career, Callis has scored over 25,000 points as a batting and has picked up over 550 wickets as an average podium finisher.
