The Associated Press story
Milwaukee (AFP) – The New York Mets set a major league record with 106 hitters this season when Mark Kanha and Lewis Gillorm fell once in Wednesday’s 6-0 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers.
New York has been hit more hard than the 2021 Cincinnati Reds.
“It’s like a broken record at this point,” Kanha said. “We kind of roll our eyes when that happens now and we move on. There’s nothing you can do but take advantage of it, make it hurt, and all you can do. Yeah, sure, we’re disappointed. It’s not a great thing to happen to your team.”
Mets manager Buck Showalter has repeatedly complained about the number of times his players have been injured. He pointed for the ball after Guillorme was hit with the left foot by Jake Cousins’ slide in the ninth.
When Showalter was asked what he planned to do with the ball, he quipped that “it would be outrageous to tell you” before adding, “I gave it to my batting coaches. They can do with it whatever they want.”
The Mets were messed up in other ways Wednesday, too. Mets midfielder Brandon Nemo injured his left thigh muscle while stealing second base and left after the first half. Left player Jeff McNeill slammed his right wrist against a chain link fence in a failed attempt to catch Proso’s engine.
She was hit like she was near the hip in the third and the ribs in the fifth. He has hit the league’s highest level 24 times this year and tied with Ty France in Seattle for the highest level last year with 27 times.
“I’m closer to the painting and I don’t move,” he said as if. “We have a lot of good hitters, dangerous hitters, you have to provide good hitters, and we tend to get hits a lot.”
2,112 bats were infected last year, surpassing 1,984 in 2019. Bats were exposed 1,875 times their entry on Wednesday with two weeks left.
“Teams have to try to figure out ways to get us out, and I think that’s part of the way, trying to get inside,” Nemo said, “and so you’re going to get hit when that happens.”
Cincinnati shooters set a record with 99 hits this year, one more than last year’s Chicago Cubs.
